Panos Balomenos (b. 1976 Athens, Greece) lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. He received a BFA in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera (Accademia fi Belle Arti di Brera) in Milan, Italy, a BFA in sculpture from the State School of Fine Arts (Städelschule) in Frankfurt, Germany and his MFA from the Academy of Fine Arts of Helsinki (Kuvataideakatemia) in Finland. His work has been exhibited both in solo and group shows in Finland and abroad in galleries and and museums; including the Wäinö Aaltonen Museum in Turku, Finland (2005), Platform Garantí in Istanbul, Turkey (2006), Vienna International Apartment in Brussels, Belgium (2007 and 2010), Camões Institute in Lisbon, Portugal (2008), Museo Baluarte dela Candelaria in Cádiz, Spain (2008), Design Museum in Helsinki, Finland (2011), Center for Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki, Greece (2015), Art-Athina the Art Fair of Athens, Greece (2015) and The Porvoo Art Hall (2014).
Panos Balomenos' work consists of paintings, sculptures, installations and garments specifically designed and executed for the performative purposes of his projects. In his art, he explores the subject of human portraiture. He aims to offer in public both criticism and a sense of catharsis. The atmosphere expressed through his sceneries is a response to the society's thirst for power, money and manipulation.
